ARMY OF YOU aims to raise awareness of and funds for, War Child an international child protection agency that works with the most marginalised children – child soldiers, street kids and children in prison – in Iraq, Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda – www.warchild.org.uk
A high profile fund-raising initiative, WAR CHILD MUSIC aims to raise awareness for War Child’s UN award-winning campaigns. ARMY OF YOU, in keeping with the charity’s ongoing use of music and live gigs, is a jam-packed London showcase, presenting an exciting array of the UK's hottest new bands and DJs.
War Child has an acclaimed history of using music to raise awareness and create support for children affected by war, from the opening of the Pavarotti Music Centre in Mostar, which marked the culmination of War Child's work in Bosnia in 1998, to the celebrated fundraising music compilation, The Help Album, released in 1995, which featured tracks from Oasis, The Stone Roses, Massive Attack and Blur. To mark the 10 year anniversary of the album in 2005, War Child released its second Help album entitled 'Help: A Day in the Life' which featured exclusive tracks from the likes of Razorlight, Kaiser Chiefs, Gorillaz and Radiohead. Recorded in 24 hours, it stands as the fastest recorded album of all time and has raised over 500k for the charity.
War Child was founded in 1993 in response to the conflict in the former Yugoslavia.
A UN award winning charity, it works with some of the most hard-hit children in conflict and post-conflict zones around the world. It has:
· Separated children from adults in prison and negotiated their release in Afghanistan.
· Supported de-mobilised child soldiers in Congo with start up grants and training in small business management; and
· Established much needed drop-in centres and trained social workers to support street children in southern Iraq.
War Child looks forward to a world in which war is not prosecuted on children.
